Dear Trumbull Pisces,
“Sometimes miracles are just good people with kind hearts.”
By definition a miracle is an amazing product or achievement, or an outstanding example of something.
I have always believed in miracles, and been happy for those who have been granted them.
According to #13 on my life bucket list, I have always wished to be granted a miracle of my own one day.
Unfortunately, my bucket list does not include tips on recognizing you have already been granted your own miracle.
Trumbull Pisces you were my miracle.
From the moment I made the team after trying out two times. It was a miracle that I actually made it considering I thought butterfly was simply a reference to the beautiful insect.
From the moment Coach Bill decided to save our crumbling team.
From all the times when the Hillcrest Pool was shut down due to health code regulations, it was a miracle that no one ever lost any of their spirit.
For the last time, I walked off the pool deck as a swim coach from the best team around.
I will be forever grateful and loyal to not only the team who made me the person I am today but also to the people who were there along the whole way.
To the Coaches….
Who I may add are now my co-workers.
Coach Bill, thank you for always being there for me through absolutely everything. Thank you for teaching me that I can achieve absolutely anything as long as I am willing to put in the hard work. I know sometimes you may feel the weight of the world on your shoulders, but be sure to take a second to look around and appreciate what you have done for this family. I am grateful to call you my coach, my boss, and my friend.
Coach Colleen, thank you for being my older sister, and for being my sunshine on a rainy day. I will never be able to pick up a bag of salt&vinegar chips without thinking of you. I never told you how much I look up to you as a role model and aspire to be just like you, it was an honor to be your assistant coach.
Coach Chris, thank you for teaching everyone to always be themselves, even if it could get a little goofy sometimes. I know I could always look to you to make me smile whenever I was having a bad day. No matter what others think about you, remain yourself. I will never forget your wedding day, and being amongst your family, by the way I never got to tell your mom about my plan for becoming president.
To all the swimmers on the Trumbull Pisces…
Understand that the Pisces is not a swim team, it is an extended family, unlike no other.
Realize that the teammates around you will be your friends for the rest of your life.
No matter how bad a race was or a practice may be, keep going.
Appreciate the coaches, I am not biased here I promise, but they are the best in the industry.
I am envious of all of you because you began your swim career with the best support system.
Wear those colors black and yellow proudly, they represent something so much more.
Thank you for letting me have the best job in the world because I got to do what I loved, which was coaching every single one of you.
Take in every minute of being a Pisces swimmer.
One day, you will find yourself hanging up all the pictures of your family in your college dorm room, pictures which included both your immediate family and your second family. Only wishing you could go back to be able to appreciate everything that you had, especially the people.
Thank you, Pisces for being my miracle.
