As a student of 13 years, I've seen the struggle. Teachers, when they walk in, hold a story in their eyes. Here's a couple of things your students always appreciated, but never told you.
Your smile.
Your smile was so contagious. It radiates when you don't even see it. When I was having a bad day, dreading my next move... I saw your smile. It gave me a sense of security and comfort.
Your passion
When you made a lesson plan, and did something spontaneous... We saw it. You wanted to make class fun, and different. You always had something up your sleeve... and we loved it. (Even if we didn't tell you because we were too cool.)
Your impact
You impacted every student who walked through your door. Whether it was just the lesson of the day or the long talk after class. When I was sad, you noticed. You'd always stop me in the hall, and ask how I was. Some students, you impacted their career goals. Personally, I didn't have one until I met you. You inspired me to be more for this world.
Your bad days
We all have bad days... but we noticed how well you handled yours. When you were speaking, we could hear the shakiness in your voice. When you looked at us, we could see the tears in your eyes. You handled your bad days like a professional. You never wanted us to have a bad day, just because you were. You taught me it was okay to have bad days, but don’t let them define you.
Your life lessons.
You were never afraid to tell us about your past mistakes. You may have told us because you did not want us to repeat them. You were always so open, and you taught me lessons that weren't in the days agenda.
Your purpose.
Purpose is something that is so hard to find at a young age. You don't know what you're supposed to do with your life. You showed me that I could find my purpose too. You pushed me, even when I didn't want to be pushed. You gave me a purpose... and a reason to fight for what I wanted.
Teachers are the backbone of the world. Every doctor, lawyer, politician you see... started in the same place.
Thank you for your hard work, it does not go unnoticed. Always remember... We see you.
