To The Teacher Who Changed My Life,
Where do I even begin with this letter? I think I should begin with a few Thank You's. Thank you for always believing in me, especially when I didn't believe in myself. Thank you for pushing me to new levels of achievement and making me work towards my goals. Thank you for leading me to become my true self. Thank you for allowing all of your students to express themselves freely. Thank you for introducing new ideas and perspectives to a bunch of sheltered midwestern kids. Thank you for never judging and always listening. Thank you for your experience and guidance, both about school subjects and about life in general.
You allowed me to grow my perspectives in ways I never thought was possible. I learned about how to appreciate other cultures, languages and world views. You fostered a spirit of curiosity in me that is still going strong today. Because of you, I am a more well-rounded, informed citizen of my state, my country and my world. I understand what it means to be compassionate and caring for my neighbors of other religions, races, nationalities and political affiliations. You instilled in your students what it means to be patient with difficult people, because you were so often patient with us.
I hope that you know that the impact you had on your students lives on to this day. When asked to think about a teacher who changed my life, I thought of you. That's because you helped me realize who I wanted to be. Your students are becoming lawyers, politicians, business women, engineers, teachers and vets. You helped us see our full potential. You led us to discover the greatness hidden within ourselves and each other.
I write this letter not only to the teachers who impacted my own life, but to all educators. Thank you for serving the children in your communities. You help make our world a better one by supporting children in their pursuit of greatness. Thank you for your sacrifice, for your knowledge and for your kindness. You are greatly appreciated.
