To The Single Mom Who Raised Me

I know it hasn't been easy

To The Single Mom Who Raised Me
Christina Matthels

It's been a long journey these past few years, especially having to raise two kids and successfully prepare them for the real world. You have watched me grow and helped me through every step of the way. You've supported me through every decision, even if you didn't always agree with me.

You were always putting me and my sibling first even if it meant sacrificing your own personal desires.

You spent what little money you had left after paying the bills for us, even though there were many times you had wanted to treat yourself to something nice. You worked hard to get an education so you could make better pay to support our family even if it meant late nights and long work shifts.

You have done so much for me and our family yet despite it all, there were so many times when I never showed the appreciation you deserved. There were times when I would complain about something we didn't have and not notice all the trouble you went through so we could have certain luxuries. There were times when I would get mad at you for being strict with me without noticing you had to fill in the role of another parent. There were times when I would shut you out completely and not notice your effort to reach out to me so you could be there for your daughter. There were times I never really appreciated you, and that is the least you deserve after all the sacrifices you have made.

Things may not be perfect, but the older I get the more I realize the extent you go to make me and our family happy. Thank you so much for everything you do, and for never giving up on me even though there were times when it seemed like I gave up on you. I'm so grateful and honored to have a strong mother like you. Thank you for everything.

Happy Mothers Day,

Love,

your daughter

Friendship. It's defined as the state of being attached to another person by feelings of affection or personal regard, but what really is friendship? Is it that occasional hallway talk with that one person who always manages to cheer you up? Is it that relationship you have with someone where they can be gone for a long period of time, but when they come back, it's like they never left? Is it spending every waking hour with someone, and knowing every detail about their life? Is it the relationship that's filled with fighting, but filled with even more resolution? I've learned that it's all of these things, and every friendship is different. It's a beautifully dysfunctional mess that should always be cherished and never be taken for granted.
