To The President Who Thinks Rape Is A Preexisting Condition

Half of the world doesn't like you already, do you really want to be hated too?

To The President Who Thinks Rape Is A Preexisting Condition

I say this with complete honesty: Mr. President, please stop, you are making a bigger fool of yourself. I believe that there is a very famous quote that goes something like, "Dig one's own grave." Well...

Please, be a man and stop thinking that rape is a preexisting condition. A preexisting condition is any medical condition that a patient has before signing up for insurance. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, for all of you who do not know, an amendment (the new MacArthur-Meadows Amendment) in the GOP healthcare-reform bill indicates that it would allow states to grant insurance companies the ability to deny coverage to patients based on their medical history; including if they suffered from PTSD amongst other things after being sexually assaulted. AND THE PRESIDENT IS FOR THIS! He actually believes that this is a good idea. That this is the way to go. That it is better than Obamacare...

BEFORE Obamacare came along, rape survivors could be denied treatment and help for both physical and mental injuries.

Now we want to go back to what seems like dinosaurs roaming the earth and allow insurance companies to raise premiums based on medical history. Shouldn't being a survivor grant you a price or at least a sense of "You can do anything," "You can overcome anything," "You've got this," "The world is with you" feeling? Shouldn't you be able to feel that the world is with you and not against you? I mean, isn't what you went through enough? Before Obamacare, insurance companies didn't have to say why they denied women healthcare because they did not have to say why they turned them down. So I ask this of you, do you really want to go denying people, women, more specifically, since they are at high rates for being survivors of domestic abuse and rape, the basic human right to have insurance? Are you really that horrible of a monster?

This, all and all, means that we would be reverting to pre- Obamacare and what the definitions were before of what a preexisting condition is.

The horror of this new bill even being considered by the President is unfathomable to me.

How could you, Mr. President, want to go back to the day when insurance companies discriminated against women? Is that really something you want to be remembered for? I mean, it's clear to most of us who are watching, paying attention, and actually, have any morals to see that you as a man (if you can even be called a man) have no respect for women. But really, do you want to actually make an amendment, pass a bill, make a new health care system where it is literally written? Where you cannot hide the evidence and deny it later? Are you really that nieve into thinking that it's the good, smart, right choice to make? Please stop. Do us a favor. Do yourself a favor and stop this before it is too late.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
