I understand. I get it completely, because it happens to me too. Like right now, I’m sitting in class, on the first day and all I can think about is standing up, walking out that door and not looking back. (Sorry, Mom and Dad, it’s syllabus week so that makes it a little better.) If you are like me, you probably have an entire Pinterest board dedicated to all of the places you want to travel to in the world and stops along the way. So, maybe it is time we turn our Pinterest board into our reality.
A huge chunk of my soul is telling me to leave everything I know behind and just go. But where? Personally, if I had the chance to hop on a flight to Alaska and it left in five minutes I would be gone in the blink of an eye. I live with this feeling so much that I make notes at the top of my papers, reminding me to check airplane tickets to different spots in the world when I get back to my room. But why do we get this gut feeling to just leave at a moment’s notice? It happens, we get stuck in the daily motions of life and like a freight train, we get hit with this insatiable feeling to leave and travel.
This feeling, the one raging inside of you is called wanderlust, and the only way to cure it is to just go.
Wanderlust (n): A strong desire to travel.
My advice, start saving and start planning because when your soul tells you to go somewhere, you should listen. If you are scared and don’t want to make the journey alone, find someone with the same desire to travel as yourself (or pick me, I will go just about anywhere). I don’t care if you are 18 or 80, if you’re looking for that sign telling you to go then this is it. I am telling you to go, have fun! Learn new cultures. Go get lost.
Leave, and don’t come back until you have satisfied your soul. However, when you return, start saving again because the crazy thing about wanderlust is that it comes back. When it calls, I hope you answer because your greatest adventure could be one flight away.
