To The Person Who Made Me Realize My Self Worth

"Thank you" is not enough to express my gratitude.

To The Person Who Made Me Realize My Self Worth
Hailey Mee

It's not that you MADE me who I am but allowed me to REALIZE who I am.

You have taught me so much about myself that I didn't know and have shown me my potential with what I can do. Before you, I never thought that I was unique or had any remote talents that made me stand out from others.

I always felt like I needed to prove myself to show my worth in life and if I couldn't I wasn't good enough. Yet everything changed when I met you. It wasn't just the typical "you're special to me so that makes you enough". No. It was your raw and unconditional support that made me realize who I am.

You have supported me through all my endeavors and believed in me. You have made me realize that dedication is an essential component to a mindset goal and that whether I run 100 miles or write a 100-page paper that completing a goal is unique in itself.

You have taught me that self-worth isn't something that is given to you. It's not a trophy that you get or a reward that anyone can give you. Self-worth is a mindset. A mindset that no one can make you feel less other than you. It's not about the magnitude of the abilities I have, but the extent that I use them. So thank you. Thank you for not making me who I am, but showing me that I am made by no one else but myself.

But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
