The BET awards aired last weekend, and there were many great performances and tributes to honor the late great Prince. But everyone seemed to be talking about "Grey’s Anatomy" star Jesse Williams’s speech after receiving the Humanitarian Award. Though many have praised Jesse for his speech against police attacks, some heavily disapproved of his views. This is nothing new, as police brutality has been going for a very long time in America. But people seem to voluntarily and involuntarily make up excuses that lack for evidence shown all over social media. One being TV host, Tomi Lahren, as she shared her final thoughts to millions about Jesse’s speech.
Even though she has the right to her opinion, it’s still irrelevant. Jesse Williams’s speech talked about Police Brutality and nothing else. Ms. Lahren misses the obvious point and goes completely off track just to prove a point that had nothing to do with Jesse’s speech. She accuses the show for having victimhood and police bashing. There have been too many unarmed black men who have been shot and killed by the hands of men that are suppose to protect and serve. We must come together as a community and fight the justice system that fails to protect all of America. Police bashing? Bashing is defined as a violent physical assault and nowhere in his speech he announces that blacks should come together and start beating on the police. It seems to be the other way around when it comes to bashing. How about the high school student in South Carolina who was grabbed by the neck, and flipped backwards by a police officer.
She says, “Do you know how many of our ancestors fought in the civil war to free your ancestors?” His speech was on Police Brutality. Then accuses Jesse of complaining of how bad he has it because he is a well-paid actor. Well for those of you who may not know, this is for you. Being a person of color, some of us who are fortunate to become successful, may live a luxurious lifestyle. But just because we may have riches does not mean we are excluded from racial profiling, culture embezzlement, belittling and insulting a race that helped build this country. She ends with telling Jesse to sit down. I’m not going to say to Ms. Lahren to have several seats because that seems to be the problem. She’s been sitting down too long. Maybe she should get up off her butt and walk through the hood to see what it’s like.
