If studying abroad is something that has ever crossed your mind, you should absolutely do it. If there is nothing else in life that you ‘just do’, then let this be the only one and I promise there will be no regrets. Here is some advice to encourage you to take the trip of a lifetime!

Don’t let the green scare you. I know money is the ultimate intimidation, but just like all the good travel memes say, “Don’t worry about the money, just make it work.” In the most unimaginable ways, it does just work. Of course, you have to have a certain amount of currency to actually buy the plane ticket, but don’t stress a specific amount. Specific amounts give the idea that they are unattainable. Honestly an abroad experience is priceless and completely possible.

Don’t let home hold you back. Do not, under any circumstances think about what (you think) you’re leaving behind. This includes family, friends, significant others, pets, jobs, school, etc. I PROMISE, life will continue on while you are gone. For better or for worse, being away will ultimately show you who will be in your life no matter what. Honestly, you being away works as a filter that allows you to decide what relationships are most important to you. In the beginning it may feel like you need to be glued to any means of communication just to keep up with your friends, but you’ll quickly realize how much you’re missing out on if you go about things this way.

Don’t stress the prep. While there is a lot of mental and general prep that is suggested for this type of trip, going into it almost completely blindsided, with the exception of some safety guidelines, is the best part. Yes, it’s another country, another culture, another language, but they’re still people with everyday lifestyles that you’ll find a way to fit right into. Embrace EVERY SINGLE part of this! Embracing a new culture is by far one of the most important aspects of your trip. This is where your new, life changing perspectives are gained. There is really no way of putting into words the new set of eyes you will have when returning to the states until you have experienced this for yourself.

Don’t be nervous about making friends. While sometimes it may feel awkward in the states to just walk up to someone and start a conversation, in other countries this is normal. This is also why it’s so important to embrace the culture! The sooner you get an idea of the people and their lifestyles, the sooner you’ll understand how to approach them and they’ll love your effort.

Don’t live by yourself. Live with a local family if at all possible. The absolute best way to learn everything about the country is to put yourself right at the heart of an everyday family. They’ll cook delicious food for you and even teach you some recipes if you ask. They’ll show you around town, tell you the best places to eat and the bars to watch out for. And, before you even know it, they’ll be loving you as their own and you’ll be heartbroken when it’s time to leave.

Lastly, don’t think about it anymore. Buy the plane ticket. Leave it all behind. Make those life changing memories and take in all the beautiful sights.

DO STUDY ABROAD!

Dear High School Friend Group,

My sweet angels, where would I be without you guys. We all grew up together because we either met in middle school or high school and watched each other grow up and get "old." We got to go to prom together and then graduate together. Then watched each other as we continued our lives in college, joining sororities and meeting people who will impact our lives forever. It all has happened so fast.

Oh college, we can’t live with you, but we can’t live without you. It’s a love/hate relationship, really. College is an experience that no one can ever prepare you for, and maybe that’s a good thing. You never really expect any of the things that college encompasses until you are there. College is fun, but don’t have too much fun. C’s get degrees, but they don’t get you into graduate school.

Blair Waldorf

The "Gossip Girl" series may be over, but Blair Waldorf's iconic character lives in our hearts forever. Blair was the queen of the Upper East Side, and a character you either loved or hated. She taught us everything we needed to know about life, love and of course, how to score a Chuck Bass. So the next time you feel a bit lost and are in need of guidance, look no further than to the Queen B herself.

As I spend my Sunday avoiding my homework and other adult responsibilities, I realized that I've watched this series over and over about a million times. Sadly, there isn't a Blair quote I don't know, so I came up with a list of a few favorites. You know you love her...xoxo

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help.
