Every morning as I make my way to class on campus, I’m half asleep and don’t want to deal with anyone. I am going to admit that I may have been guilty of resting bitch face or something along those lines in the morning, but there is always something that cheers me up: people who walk their dogs on campus.
Okay, you know if I’m talking about you. The people that walk or run their dogs during the busy times when many people are wandering around campus. Honestly speaking, you make my morning when I see you walk past with your dog.
I personally have a dog at home--a beagle--and such a cute little boy. He is my best friend; although I know that everyone says this, but he truly is the best dog. But when anyone says that, they are mostly correct. My fluffy buddy is back at my house during the school year and home is far away so I don’t get to see him very often while school is in session, so seeing your dog walk past makes the distance a little bit easier to handle.
Now I know that I can go to those events where they bring dogs, and cats, and other various animals once a week or so on campus, but unfortunately I am unable to go to any of them because every semester I have work or class during those events. But, I wish I could go and pet that mini horse every week.
But I am able to see people walk their dogs in the mornings and evenings.
I’m sure that people are nicer to you and happier to see you when you are walking a dog on campus, and I don’t even have to wonder about this. For a short bit I got to watch a dog this past year and while walking around on campus, no matter what time of day, people were always happy to see me (or the dog rather). On a regular morning no one smiles at someone walking past, or wishes them a good morning, but that all changes when you are walking a dog. Everyone wishes you a good morning or says hello, and everyone smiles at you. Everyone is happy to see you (or rather the dog). But when you are walking the dog, it doesn’t matter; you’re happy because other people are happy. And that is what walking a dog does.
So this is a thank you note to everyone who walks their dog, and those who even let me pet their dog.
Thank you for letting me stop you in the mornings to pet your dog and wish you a good morning.
Thank you for not thinking me too weird when I stare at your dog and smile.
Thank you for walking your dog on campus so that I, and the many other sleep deprived students, can get to see a cute fuzzy face that is also happy to see us.
