Every person in this world has something they love, something that is their passion. I joined band eight years ago. At the time I didn't know how much I would come to love the world of music, let alone it becoming my passion.
The first breath I had with the world of band was my very first band director, Phillip West. He was the person who first planted the seed of music in my head. My time with Mr. West was very short. After my first year in band, he took a job in Green County, Kentucky so he would be able to spend more time with his wife and kids. Although, I only knew Mr. West for a short time, he made such an impact on my life. It took a toll on all of us when he left. The man who took his place I won't even mention; he left after one year.
The band director that took his place and the one I had all throughout high school is Jason Shores. He is the person who showed me music can change lives. Most importantly, he showed me how to love and appreciate music. He talked me into joining marching band and that's where I found my love and passion for music. I found so much joy in going to marching band practice every Tuesday and Thursday and it became an escape for me when I was feeling down or I just needed to get away and relax. But sadly, my senior year was the last year for Mr. Shores at Edmonson County High School. He decided to take a job in Barren County, Kentucky, teaching elementary music, for the same reason as Mr. West.
Lastly, my percussion instructor, Josh Rios, showed me that without the percussion music wouldn't be the same. Without the percussion, music wouldn't have a beat; it wouldn't have a pulse. No matter what he always stayed positive and showed us how to do things right, when we did them wrong. It is him I credit with me finding my calling within marching band;Drumline. He also decided to leave Edmonson County, as he and his wife just had a baby girl and are starting their family.
It is these three amazing people I credit with me finding love and passion within music. I do believe that without these three people, I wouldn't be where I am today. So here is to the next four years at Campbellsville with Ms. Tinnell, Mr. Bonds, Dr. Floyd, and the rest of the Tiger Marching Band. I am and will always be forever grateful to Mr. West, Mr. Shores, and Josh. For they have shown me something truly amazing. They have changed my life for the better. After all, " Without music, life would b-flat." -unknown
