To The People Who Procrastinate

It happens to the best of us.

To The People Who Procrastinate,

We are the majority. We are the unashamed. And we are proud. However, none of those things should actually be correct, because procrastination is literally the worst thing for any one person to do. For those of you who live under a rock, procrastination is the act of putting something off until the last feasible moment before doing it. Usually, it's something, such as an assignment or a simple task, that you receive weeks to months before its due. Unfortunately, the moment we all hear those words "it's not due until..." we for some reason think "oh, I've got tons of time before this is due! I don't need to do this now." But boy, for some reason we interpret that mind set as tons of time to the day before its due.

I will say, I've done my best work when I procrastinate till the night before an assignments due, but the effects of doing so tend to turn that sweet victory into a war with many casualties. Procrastination is kind of like one of those drugs advertised on TV. They sound and look so beneficial during the majority of the advertisement, but then you get to the guy at the end who spits out straight fire about the side effects and they progressively get worse as he goes on, until finally the last one is a chance of death. And you're just like "Oh my word. What have I done?" But at that point of realization that you've made a grave mistake, it's already too late.

Once you've procrastinated a few times and have done a pretty good job on the assignment/ task, you upgrade to the title of veteran procrastinator. However, this tends to be when people start to get sloppy in their work. After you've successfully procrastinated a few times and have earned this title, you'll start to think that you can do it every time for an assignment/task. By every time, I mean that once you actually receive the assignment/task you never actually plan on doing the assignment in advance, you just straight up plan to procrastinate till the last day. This is where it gets messy. When a person starts to build this mentality about procrastinating, they'll start to slip up in the art. They'll forget to get certain supplies or they'll realize that certain things about the assignment/task need to be done over a period of several days. Which thus puts the "veteran procrastinator" into procrastination limbo, where they'll start to not do so hot on assignments/tasks. Which probably means they're really going to start stressing out and rethinking their procrastinating ways.

All in all procrastination is truly an art. It's not for everyone, and honestly everyone shouldn't do it. But just as a mom telling her son not to procrastinate won't stop the inevitable, this dedication to procrastinators won't make them even skip a beat. I mean I know I probably won't stop. But none the less, procrastinators will proceed with doing nothing for hours and then realize that they have something due the next day around 9:00 pm and thus the cycle continues for ages to come.

Sincerely,

The Girl Who Just Wants To Graduate College

P.S. I once procrastinated so bad, I wrote my entire midterm at 10:00 pm the night before it was due and wrote 10 pages in 2 hours.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
