As young people entering into the adult world we are often flooded with questions pertaining to a “plan”. We’re surrounded with the curiosity of others as to what we are going to do with our lives as we begin to build our futures. I for one, have often found myself being asked what my plan is, but then am told that “God has a plan.” But what about my plan?
Surely I’m not the one that’s 110% certain that I will go to IUPUI for four years and then become a nurse (because no one ever switches majors) and then get my first job in a trauma unit (because they so frequently hire rookies) and then get married to the love of my life at 23 (the wedding is already planned on Pinterest) then travel the world as a missionary nurse and then settle down and have my first child at 28 and then my second at 30 and then adopt three more children down the road, right?
Wrong.
We all seem to be convinced that our plan is the ultimate plan, but in the midst of the chaos of life, it is often found that our plan is far less accurate than we’d ever imagine. Our society craves complete control and is slow to accept that often times we lack any control at all. During our life planning we get so caught up in what we want but often fail to see the reason why. Why do I want to be a nurse that’s married to a hunk and be a momma to five babies? Because our ultimate search and what we long for most at the end of the day is happiness.
I mean how often do you hear people go “yanno I really would just HATE to be happy?”
Never, because that’d just be absurd.
If OUR deepest longing is to find pure joy and happiness, then just imagine what GOD wants for us. God has a plan for each and every one of us, and sometimes we inevitably go against His plan or have a hard time seeing it through the blur of life as it flies by. But, if we truly listen to Him and let Him guide our hearts then we will quickly realize that in the end, His plan and our plan are the same. All anyone ever wants in life is happiness and God wouldn’t ever lead you to anything but happiness.
In order to achieve this immense joy and happiness we must set our eyes on the Lord and trust in his plan. Remember to count your blessings rather than your struggles and to look for the good in the bad. When we find our own comfort and security in Him we will be lead to a more successful and fulfilling life, one that is far beyond what we ever could have created for ourselves on our own.
So remember when you get caught up in whether or not you’re certain of what your future might hold, the Big Man has a plan that is much greater than yours but will ultimately lead you to the same goal as the plan of your own. When you find yourself getting annoyed with the reoccurring commentary of "God's plan", know that His plan and your plan lead to the same satisfaction of pure joy.
