High school is hard, but you can do this.

To The One Who Doesn't Think They'll Make It Through High School

High school is hard. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Between the cliques, the homework, college prep, midterms and finals, and bullies it's enough to make someone want to scream. I know it seems damn near impossible to get through sometimes, but I promise it gets better. It gets so much better. Life after high school is so good. After you walk across that stage at graduation you have the choice of never stepping foot in that building again, never talking to that bully again, and burning every piece of homework you stayed up all night crying over.

Don't give up

Don't give up when you fail. Don't give up when you and your best friend since middle school have a fall out. Don't give up when it feels like your teachers are out to get you. Giving up just makes you stress even more than you already are.

Just Breathe

When you feel like you're going to panic, focus on your breathing. Look around and count five things you can see, four things you can touch, three things you can hear, two things you can smell, and one thing you can taste. I learned this in my psychology class in high school. It's called grounding. It helps with panic attacks. Believe me, as a person who has severe anxiety, this has helped me multiple times. Just keep breathing and do your very best to make it through the hard times that high school can bring.

Don't Be Afraid To Make New Friends

I know that person you've been best friends with since elementary school is a great friend, but don't be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone and talk to that girl that sits alone every day. Chances are she's just shy and is too scared to approach anyone. When the teacher tells you to pick partners on a project, don't be afraid to pick someone you've never worked with before.

Don't Be A Bully

Jokes about someone's appearance, sexual orientation, or religion is NEVER funny. I know it may not seem like a big deal, but I can guarantee it will deeply hurt that person. I still remember comments people made to me in high school 5 years ago. They stick with you forever. It hurts. Don't be a jerk just to make one of your friends laugh.

Don't Spread Rumors

They're just that. Rumors. Chances are it's not true. Even if it is, it's gossiping and no one likes someone who spreads their business all over the school. Rumors will ruin friendships and trust. Eventually people will feel like you spill all of their secrets or you make up lies about them. You won't be trusted and not to mention, people will start spreading rumors about you. Be mature and use your words wisely.

I promise you life is so much better once you're done with high school. You meet new people every day, fall in love, and learn new things. Life is worth living. I know it seems hard now, but you can do it. Stay strong.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
