As I see the never-ending pictures from all of the seniors who have just recently graduated from high school and are so close to entering a new chapter in their lives, it got me thinking to when I had graduated and was freaking out about going to college.
Even though I knew as soon as I stepped on the University of Delaware's campus that I wanted to go there, I was still internally freaking out about leaving home, and all my friends and family, behind. I was lucky enough that I had a couple close friends from my high school going there with me, and I was really active on social media, which allowed me to make some friends before I even moved in.
For any newly graduated seniors who may be nervous for college, that's normal, trust me. I doubt there's anyone who isn't nervous to go away, even if it's just a little. I'm going to be honest, even if you aren't that far from home, it's still a pretty big adjustment. Being away from home, maybe for the first time, can be hard. Being in a whole new environment without knowing a lot of people can be overwhelming, but I promise it doesn't last long.
Branch out, talk to people on your floor or in your classes, go out and have fun. There are so many opportunities in college to put yourself out there. Don't be one of those people who are "stuck in high school". Yes, I'm sure you have a great group of friends at home, but you need those friends at school because they make the experience one thousand times better.
Just remember: study hard and have fun. If you have a good balance between the two, then college should actually be the best four years of your life.
