To The Most Important People In My Life

Dear Mom and Dad,

I wrote this letter to show my appreciation for you. A lot of events have happened recently and it made me realize how fortunate I am to have you in my life.

Thank you for the life you have given me. I know that it was not easy and that you both worked your butts off to get me where I am today. I am lucky enough to have the opportunity to go to college and not have to worry about having a job while doing it.

Thank you for blessing me with an amazing brother and sister. I don't know who I would be without them in my life. You have created a beautiful family and just thank you, thank you, thank you.

There are memories filled with love, laughter, and pure joy. Now, of course, there are memories that weren't the best but it is all a part of the family. A family is not perfect in any way, it has flaws and quite frankly that's what makes it the best.

You have given me an amazing childhood. The nights together watching Christmas movies even though Halloween had just ended. Dad, you always went all out with the decorating outside just to put smiles on our faces. We always bonded with our love for scary movies and I will never forget the nights staying up late with you watching a ton of them. Mom, you always made coming home after a long day at school better by having warm chocolate chip cookies ready for us. You never failed to know what was wrong with us even when we said, "I'm fine." Eventually, we would tell you and you'd be there with open arms and a listening ear.

You both may have questioned your parenting time to time but let me tell you, you guys did a magnificent job. You have shaped me into the strong woman I am today. You taught me to go after what I want in life, to never give up, and to find my happiness and passion.

You have shown me what it's like to have parents that love each other unconditionally. I will never take that for granted.

You were there for me when I fell, whether it was literally or metaphorically. You would be there to wipe away my tears and tell me it was going to be okay. The weeks I'd spend sick, you would be right by my side supporting me through it all.

You are one-of-a-kind parents and I am so grateful for the both of you. Thank you for everything you have done for me and the family. For all of the sacrifices you have made and all of the hard work you have done, to give me this life.

Love,

Your Daughter

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
