To The Man I Want To Marry

We're young but in love, and I can't wait to be old and still in love.

Jordan and I

Sometimes, when you're with someone for so long, you get tired of them. Maybe because we're young, it's not expected that we'd want to commit. Even though I'll never be over you. From junior year of high school to junior year of college, you've done everything you can to make me happy, and make sure I had everything I ever wanted, even if I wasn't the best girlfriend. This is for you, for everything you do, and why I want to be your wife.

I've never committed to something as long as I've been with you. As a teenager, I would go day to day changing everything from my hair, my style, and even who I had a crush on, but you're different. Through choosing different colleges, changing career paths, you've stuck with me, and you continue to be with me even after all this time. I am amazed by you and your ability to be flexible with me, to love me regardless of the many times I've messed up.

You want the best for me. Even if it means going to a college two hours away, you want me to have everything I need to be successful. You've supported me through wanting to be a teacher, and now wanting to go to seminary. You always want to get the best thing for me, and to be the best guy you can, and I don't think I've ever really had that in my life. I wish I could show you how much I want the best for you. I will always stay by your side, I will always want you to reach for your dreams, just like you want me to reach for mine.

Being with you is my favorite thing. Whether you're playing games on my computer, or helping me unpack my room, just being with you is enough for me. I never want that to stop. I can't wait for the day where you don't ever have to go home, and we can play app games on my phone like the kids we are all day and all night. You're effortlessly funny and the looks you give me just make me feel special because I know you really want to make me happy. I love the fact that I can be a kid with you, without a care in the world. You really are my best friend.

I love seeing your passions. Whether it's that game on my computer, or the Rubik's Cube, or coffee set ups, I love seeing you just love something. You try to explain things to me, and honestly, half the time I don't understand, but I just listen to you talk about it. You are so passionate about your hobbies, and I just want to be able to see that for the rest of my life. Maybe it's computer programming that I'll never understand, or maybe it's coffee that I understand far too well. Either way, I want to continue to be the person you can be passionate with.

I can't imagine life without you in my life, and hopefully, I'll never have to. Whether we get married in two years, or five years, or whenever, I want to be in your life. I want to be your best friend forever. I want to stand in front of our friends and family and show them how much you mean to me. For now, being your girlfriend is the best thing that has ever happened to me, and I can't tell you enough how much I love you.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
