To The Little Girl Who Made Me An Aunt

Dear Baby Girl,

I found out your mom was pregnant with you in August and I found out you were a girl in November. Now it's March and you are going to be arriving soon and I got to say I couldn't be more excited. I already love you more than life itself and I already know that you can do whatever you put your mind too.

You see the crazy thing about being an aunt at a young age is that you learn to love someone more than you love yourself and that is so crucial. When all of your cousins were born to your aunts and uncles I was over thrilled with joy and one thing for sure is that being the first born is special.

I already know your parents love you and will be the best parents they can be for you. I also know that your grandparents will treat you like a true princess. Your cousins will instantly want to hold you and play with you and your aunts and uncles will be excited to have a new bundle of joy in their life.

From an aunt that is in college I got to say that people who are who aren't aunts or uncles in college don't understand how great it is. I get to buy you clothes, play with you, watch Disney movies with you (which I thoroughly enjoy), and finally one day I will get to listen to you complain about how "mom and dad aren't being fair."

But most of all, I want you to know that I'll always be there for you and that I will always be in your life. Watching you grow up, playing sports, going to school, liking that first boy. I'll be there for you just like your mom and dad have been there for me. They've helped me through a lot and I want to help do the same for you.

So baby girl I want you to remember this because it's one of my favorite Bible verses, "She is far more precious than jewels" -Proverbs 3:15 because you are. I can't wait to meet you!

Love,

Aunt Roo Roo

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
