Trolls: The ups and the downs.

Have you ever had someone just look at you and stare when you tell them you are going to see the newest release of whatever children’s movie just came out? Or the moment you are at the theatre and you buy your ticket and the employee just looks at you and asks, “Where’s the child?” I have seen more kid movies then I can personally count. There is just something about them that I appreciate when it comes to kid movies. Maybe it is the songs, the scenery, or overall just the message and the characters. But, let me say one thing first, I do not love every single children’s movie I’ve ever seen.

One movie I never could quite decide if I was a fan of or not was the movie Trolls. The songs were cute, the scenery was amazing, and I loved the characters. However, the story line just didn’t amaze me. It just seemed like another children’s movie I had seen. But no matter what, I still found a favorite character within in this movie. My favorite character was a troll named Branch. And, if you ask my friend Kim, she’d say we are just alike.

  1. Branch Is Sarcastic

Sarcasm is something you either have or you don’t. And if you are lucky enough to have even a glimpse of the sarcasm gene, it can later be developed over time. I have been given the sarcastic gene just like Branch. Branch comes off as sarcastic most of the movie. And his sarcasm is sometimes quite funny.

2. Branch Is Sassy

Sassiness is another one of those traits you either have or you don’t. Sass is a little bit different than sarcasm, but both are quite similar. I also have been given the sass gene. Branch also has a sense of sassiness most of the movie.

3. Branch Doesn’t Sing

Singing is one of those things you either are decent at or aren’t. For me, I am not decent at singing at all, and that is okay. However, in the beginning, Branch won’t sing, but later he comes out about why he won’t sing. And in the end, he might sing (or not)…you will just have to watch the movie to find out.

4. Branch Tries To Be The Cheerful One (Later in the Movie)

Cheeriness is one of those things that some people try to do all the time even when they are having a rough time of their own. I like to think I can be considered cheerful, but that is one of those things that not everyone can do. Branch isn’t always cheerful, but sometimes cheeriness comes in the end.

5. Branch Is Well Prepared

Being well prepared isn’t always the easiest thing to do. Sometimes it can be the most difficult. I like to think I’m well prepared, but honestly, who knows? Branch, however, is almost always well prepared in this movie.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
