To The Girls With Dreams And Goals But Are Tired

It's OK to be tired but not to be someone you are not.

Maybe it’s a Victoria Secret model sponsoring a new bikini, or a young, perfect looking couple posing for their engagements photos, perhaps even a beach with a beautiful, blonde girl with a thigh gap.

You, however, managed to wake up to your alarm clock without hitting snooze today and successfully rolled out of bed and threw your hair into a messy bun. Cheerios for the 12th day in a row. An old sweatshirt and leggings again. Your foundation is evenly applied, but thicker underneath your bottom eyelashes to hide the dark circles of exhaustion.

And, that’s about it.

Homework from hell, and a day of filled with Netflix sounds great these days. Your deodorant managed to last all day, so there’s that. You also managed to move and be mobile. That’s always a plus.

Other than these things, what else did you accomplish today?

You didn’t go Spain or find your “McDreamy.”

Cutting out your favorite food didn’t make you lose any weight today.

Frankly, your butt size seems to be the same, even after all those squats.

Instagram continues to nag on you to be “better,” and the world is constantly telling you to be a girl with “dreams and goals.” But are your goals encouraged by you and given by God? Is your heart molded after your Maker or modeled by mankind?

There is, by no means, anything wrong with being skinny or falling in love with someone charming and handsome. There is also nothing wrong with being a beautiful blonde with thigh gaps or being a young set of newlyweds. But, there is in fact something wrong if “her” life is your lusting.

The tiredness from this all is so real. You battle the exhaustion by modeling another girl’s world. But what if you used that exhaustion to become a better you? Now, that is a girl with some big dreams and goals. Start focusing less on the image and more on the heart. Less on the amount of followers and more about your own happiness. Do those squats for yourself. Sparkle because you worked hard to and deserve every right to shine. Be pretty because you speak of sweetness and are passionate about your life and who you are as a person. Be smart because you can be.

Now, I want you to picture a life full of girls who had dreams and goals to run their own race instead of someone else’s. Now, imagine a world full of girls who were passionately motivated instead of “Instagram-ly” motivated.

Today is the day you shoot down comparing yourself to others and bring out your own beauty because today your goal is to be truly you. And that goal is the most precious of them all and will lead you to every dream you ever imagined.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.
