To The Girl Who Places Everyone On A Pedestal Except Herself

To the ones who don't know what they deserve.

This is for you.

The girl who doesn't know what she deserves, or even who you deserve.

Everyone tells you you deserve more, but what is that? What is "more" when you place everyone else above you? Their needs higher than your own? Even when you find someone to put your time into, they all tell you that you deserve better. How can they know what you deserve? How have they accepted this as fact? You doubt and doubt them, again and again. Thinking you've found someone you truly deserve. However, everyone else knows the ones you know in different ways. Their pedestals aren't as tall as the ones you place boy after boy on.

You place everyone on a pedestal high above your own. You think that everyone else deserves more, and you don't mind saving nothing for yourself. You pour all your energy and love into those around you. They deserve it, you know that they do. But everyone questions your judgment. You're told to be careful. To guard your heart. They know you won't hesitate to pour all your love into another human being. Then at the end of the day, what is left for yourself? All the energy is gone and there's no love left for you.

You're the girl content with loving everyone else without loving yourself. You believe you can throw yourself into everyone else and be in love with them, so much so that you don't need to love yourself. Or that it will come with, eventually.

You aren't quite sure of much at all. Not sure of what it is you deserve; maybe even what you want. Hell, maybe even what you need.

You will learn to trust your heart and your gut, and listen to what those around you say, but not always acting upon their advice and concerns. One day, you'll know exactly what you deserve.

Your pedestals might be just as high, but your own personal pedestal will be proportional to all the rest.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

What is "talking?" How does one "talk?"

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
