The other day I walked to the local coffee shop, got my usual green tea lemonade with raspberry, set up my table with my laptop, iPad, planner, notebook
aaaaannnnnnnnnnd I forgot my headphones. Sweet.
My intention was to finish up homework due this coming week, type up an article and get some future ideas, instead, I was struck eavesdropping on the conversation between two girls at the table next to me. It went a little something like this (yes, that's an Aarons Party song lyric reference)
Can you believe Jessica got drunk the other night and had the decency to post a picture on Sunday with a bible verse? Who is she trying to fool? There's not a single Christian bone in her body.
I'm sorry, uhhh madam... Could you remind me of the verses in the bible that say "Thou shalt not quote biblical scripture if thy drinks alcohol".
As the conversation continues,
Yeah, then I heard she hooked up with Max. Funny how she can sit and Preach but doesn't own up to her actions.
Did I miss the part where Jesus said "So hey, before you enter my place of worship you can't have any past relations with Sir Max." Hmmm, weird.
Lets get one thing straight, you are not better than her. You are not better than the girl who's out partying all night long, you are not better than the boy who hooked up with a girl. You're not better than the boy who cheated on his girlfriend or than the girl who doesn't follow the bible to a T. My goodness I can even say I've made my fair share of mix ups and screw ups.
Now I think we've all been there. We've all been the girl who is judged for our actions and we've all been the ones to judge others for their actions. I've been the girl who screwed up and went back to my bible to find a little guidance.
Whatever the main destination is, we'll get there. May have some bumps in the road or a little traffic, but we'll get there.
Yes, maybe my sins are different than "Jessica's" but they are not any less. They are still sins.
I'm not here to get all biblical and religious on you, I'm just trying to make people see that just because something isn't "100% Totally Righteous" doesn't mean that they can't be an active follower. We as a whole need to stop judging people on their actions.
So let's stop the slut shaming, let's stop calling him a" man-whore", let's cut the prude shaming and let's drop the ideas that we all have to be absolutely perfect in order to live our lives. Because who gives an honest damn about how I spend my life? What's it to you.
End of the day, the only person who's opinion matters to me, is my own.
Drops Mic.
