To The Girl Who Feels Too Much

You choose to see the world through your heart instead of your eyes.

Hey you,

Some say you're too sensitive but truth is you just feel too much, ever since you were little you probably remember movies, television shows, books, music, small things, big things, all affecting you more emotionally than everyone else. Every word, every action, and every energy goes straight to your heart. When you feel too much you feel like you have too much soul for the body God gave you, the smallest thing can make you feel like you are about to burst with emotions. People laugh, or make comments about how you are "too sensitive" but as overwhelmed as you feel most of the time you wouldn't change the way you are. You love so much because you feel so much. You choose to see the world and people through your heart instead of your eyes.

You don't know how to feel anything other than intense. Every single conversation, thought, feeling is so intense. You don't know how to experience something without thinking and feeling too much. You are always searching, struggling to find the meaning in everything. Though you know some things don't deserve your time and attention, you still pursue them, it's who you are. You are passionate, deep, genuine, and you should be okay with that...you should love that.

Never let anyone make you feel bad or doubt yourself because of who you are and how you feel. Stay strong and find peace in the fact that all of you, every single little bit of you is true. You are not the kind of girl who wants to be eye candy...you want to be soul food. You want to feed others and share your emotions and feeling with them.

Please hear me girl: The world has enough women who know how to do their hair and focus on the shallow things. The world needs more people like you who are willingly to do hard and holy things.

It's okay to be soft, you don't have to let the world make you hard. You don't have to put on a shell of yourself to make others happy. You don't have to let feeling your emotions and pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. You were blessed with the gift of feeling so much that you have to share your heart, be cautious in sharing it, but share it to help soften the hard hearts of others.

Don't be offended when they call you a fragile flower. Instead, weather the storms, reach for the sun and show them the strength and determination it takes for flowers to truly grow. Let your soul change the world one heartfelt conversation at a time, fragile flower. Remember to ask God "What can I learn?" Instead of "Why me?" It is a much better place to park your mind.

Stay tender,

Love your biggest supporter

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
