To the girl I’ve known since elementary school,
To say that I’ve known you for almost ten years (I think) is something that makes me so incredibly happy. I’m about 99% sure we became friends in 5th grade and only grew from there. We’ve been through a lot together, but we’ve always had each other’s backs.
Sixth grade launched our band journey together for the next three years. We got to learn the clarinet side by side and after school for two years. We grew closer by sharing a (sometimes wobbly) music stand and doing homework in between practicing songs. We’d sneak food behind the music stand when it wasn’t our turn to be playing, and let’s be honest, that was poor instrument care on our part.
You saw me through my first boyfriend and first heartbreak, and we both lovingly made fun of some of each other’s crushes. Yes, I still remember the orange polo you bought just because his favorite color was orange. And, yes, I know my own favorite color changed with my crushes a lot.
In eighth grade, when my first kiss caused all unnecessary chaos to break loose, you supported me and kept me from losing my mind. With your help, I was able to not let the other girls get to me even when it seemed like there were more people against me than with me. You were there to remind me that they didn’t matter and weren’t important. At the end of the year, you could flawlessly fill out the ‘about me’ in my yearbook. Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten that I’m supposed to get a fish and name it Anna.
I can honestly say that you’re a part of so many of my best memories—numerous trips to Hershey Park whether they be through Music in the Parks or on our own, our endless number of mall shopping trips, seeing cute movies, going to the aquarium, or our lunches together.
It’s meant so much that we’ve stayed in touch all these years despite going to different high schools. I remember coming to watch you perform in Dulaney’s marching band freshman year, and you helped me get through being in a different school than all of my friends when I decided to go to Carver. But, we kept our promise to always make time for each other and be there for the other.
Now that we’re in college, it’s been tougher to see each other, but we’ve still been around to see each other and catch up during breaks. It’s been the best getting to see each other growing up and getting to see where we’re going to go in the future.
I don’t know what will happen for us, but I know that we’ll always have each other to lean on no matter what. No matter where we are—down the street, in different states, or in different countries, we’re always just a call, text, email, or snap away.
Love,
Me
