To The Friends I'm Leaving When I Go Off To College

While it may seem like the end of a lot of things, it's also a whole new beginning.

All summer we've spent late nights out and days in the sun trying to not think about how in a few short coming months, we're not going to be together and living within miles of each other.

With the excitement of college comes fear and sadness over saying goodbye to some of the people you're closest to, including your best friends. The ones you talk to everyday and saw almost every day for the past year, and the ones who you've gone through some of your biggest senior year milestones with. During graduation, football games, and parties we silently thought in the back of our heads about the winding clock that is silently counting down the days till we won't be with each other constantly -- and that's scary as hell. But this article isn't about missing your friends, it's about remembering all the times you spent together and giving you and your friends something to remember until breaks come around and we'll see each other again.

This one goes out to you Haley, Taylor, and Kate.

You are the friend that always know how to light up a party just by your mere presence. You bring the definition of "you don't have to drink to have fun," because no matter what, you can make everyone have a good time. Parties won't be the same without you next year screaming and dancing with me; your let's-have-fun attitude is contagious and will be missed so much. There's no doubt in my mind that you won't do amazing on the field and in school next year, Kate.

To the friend with the most contagious laugh -- your laugh could make someone else laugh halfway across the world. You're going to be states away from us in West Virginia, but you're going to do amazing there. I'll miss your humor and honesty in any situation. You are truly one of a kind and you're going to do amazing in Tennesse. 1725 forever, Tay!

Lastly, to the friend I'm leaving behind in the next month. We've spent everyday of high school at your house annoying your mom with our loudness and shenanigans for the past 4 years. You know me better than anyone else in the world and I'm forever thankful for that. Don't wish this last year of high school away, because in a blink of an eye it will be over and you'll be up at WVU with us. I'm already missing you, Hales.

It's hard saying goodbye. While it may seem like the end of a lot of things, it's also a whole new beggining. The next four years are going to be different and things are going to change, but one thing won't -- and that's my love for you girls. College won't be the same without you all.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
