To the Friends I Didn't See Coming

Sometimes the most spontaneous friendships are the best.

To the Friends I Didn't See Coming

Friends. They're those people that are there to laugh with, cry with, cherish, and invest in. Some of our friends are ones that we grew up with. Maybe our parents were friends or maybe we lived right down the street. These friendships are ones that have deep roots that we will cherish forever. Some friends are those ones that you dated in elementary school, or the ones that you rode the bus with in middle school. Some friends are the ones that you cried to when you got your heart broken by somebody freshman year of high school, and you KNEW it was going to be the end of the world. Some friendships are planned, whether by parents, buses, or day cares. You see these friends coming. On the other end of that, some friendships you cannot plan or prepare for. Sometimes they are a thousand miles away, sometimes they are a 5-minute walk away. Here's to them.

Hey you,

First off, I just want to thank you. It seems like you came into my life at the perfect time. Through some sequence of events, we have become so close and created so many memories that we cannot share without risking our sanity. I want to thank you for the late nights and early mornings of being present for me. You created such a comfortable environment and assured me that I could run to you with anything, and for what seems like the first time in forever, I believed you. I thank you for the spontaneity that you have brought me. You are such a much needed light in my life and I cannot thank you for that enough. Life gets tough, and with friends like you, I know I can make it. I can truly say that home is when I'm with you. You see, I'm a believer in the idea that home isn't a place, but rather a sense of comfort that you get from somebody. Whether it be a phone call, face time, or late night drive, I believe that you will find your sense of home with people that motivate you, guide you, and comfort you. I hope that I can do for you what you have done for me. I hope that I can comfort you when times get tough. I hope that I can create inspired moments for you as you do for me. I hope I can help you find happiness.

xoxo, Me

So there's that. We can't always predict who is going to come into our life and when, but we can sure learn how to roll with it. Sometimes it's a late night at the library that results in having a heart to heart and crying at 4:00 a.m. Sometimes it's being oddly content with the silence on the other end of the phone because that person's presence is enough to calm your worries. Sometimes it's people who you meet spontaneously and click over Jimmy Neutron and stem cells. It's the completely random things in life that we could never predict that are sometimes the most valuable. Cheers.

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

Who could be a better friend than your own sister?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.

If you’re anything like me, you love a good cup of coffee. My coffee always comes from Starbucks; I refuse to drink it from anywhere else. Over the years, it’s become one of my biggest addictions. College involves a whirlwind of emotions, whether it’s from the stress of an assignment (or twenty), or from fighting with your roommate. It can be overwhelming at times and it’s important to take a step a back and calmly think things over. Maybe gain some perspective.
