To The Delinquents In My Neighborhood

Thank You for Ruining the Holidays

I am writing this to the delinquents who like to run around neighborhoods and think it is fun to steal people's holiday decorations.

I wish I could understand what goes on in your minds to think it is appropriate to walk up into people's yards in the middle of the night and steal holiday lawn decorations. What is the purpose in this? Are they souvenirs from your criminal night out? Are your intentions to make people who want to brighten your holiday spirit miserable? Whatever the reason being, you are a sick heartless human being.

With that being said, I grew up in a beautiful neighborhood where every house no matter the holiday was completely decorated for the occasion. Whatever the holiday it was, it was always fun to ride through the neighborhood and look at everyone's homes to see how they decorated and it put you in the spirit. My mom always had our house completely decked out and our house was the best on the block. In 2008 for Christmas, our house was shown on Fox Carolina news when they were showing the most decorated houses in the area. I was always very proud of how my house looked whether being Easter, Fourth of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas.

My mom is a single parent with both children living out of the home going to college and she still decorates to show spirit and give spirit to neighbors and put smiles on people's faces. That is until recently. These past couple years, she wakes up to find that some of her decorations in the yard have been stolen. Because of this, as each year goes by, she decides to put out less and fewer decorations. And still, items continue to be stolen. There have been times in the past where things are missing out of our yard but end up in other people's yards because they have been moved all around as some sick joke.

This October, she put out Halloween decorations. She woke up one morning and found that a metal pumpkin which stakes into the ground was gone along with the scarecrow. Because of these missing decorations, my mom has had enough. She returned her Halloween candy that she purchased to give out to the neighborhood children and will not be participating in Halloween this year. Why should she when you delinquents disrespect our home and property and ruin the spirit?

Whatever you do with our decorations and yard props, I hope they make you happy as they once did to my family and the families surrounding. I hope you are satisfied at the end of the day that you stole things that are used to bring joy and happiness. I'm sure the other kids would really appreciate you being the cause of the cancelation of Halloween at my house this year when my house was the best one to visit on the street. Congratulations on taking the holiday spirit away from other children. You should be extremely proud of yourselves.

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.

If you’re anything like me, you love a good cup of coffee. My coffee always comes from Starbucks; I refuse to drink it from anywhere else. Over the years, it’s become one of my biggest addictions. So, if you are aware that you’re a Starbucks addict as well, or maybe you need to check to see if you’re an addict, here are seven ways to tell.

College involves a whirlwind of emotions, whether it’s from the stress of an assignment (or twenty), or from fighting with your roommate. It can be overwhelming at times and it’s important to take a step a back and calmly think things over. Maybe gain some perspective. The following aren’t foolproof tips and may not apply to you, but I was able to find success with them (hope you do too!)
