To The Boy Who Has Never Stopped Trying

This guy has been trying to date me for a good three years now. We met on the school bus Sophomore year of high school and ever since then he has been trying to date me. He used to walk me home everyday from the bus stop to make sure I got home okay.

I have seen this boy's heart get crushed when I told him about another guy I was talking to. He would become distant and then eventually I would realize that the other guy was not what I had expected him to be. He would always be there for me when I needed him most and when he needed me, I would be there for him too.

Let us start from the beginning: I have never had feelings for this guy, but no guy has ever put so much effort into me. He would walk me home from the bus stop, buy me food, buy me flowers, teddy bears, cards--anything I could ever want. I love waking up in the mornings to the random Reese's cups on my front porch.

Our story is almost like one of a fairy tale. You treat me like a princess and make sure that I am always okay no matter what time of day. You come over just to hangout with me and play Scrabble or even UNO and you would never try anything. I know you are waiting on the day when I tell you that I have caught feelings for you. My whole family believes that we are going to get married because that is usually how this stuff goes. You make me so happy without even trying but I just cannot date you. Why you ask? Because you sir, deserve a girl who will treat you like a prince and has time to spend with you. Someone who is not always busy or working.

You deserve a trophy for how much time you have spent trying to win my heart when all I do is reject it. You are truly a really great guy and I hope one day that I might realize that I belong with you, but until then maybe you should try dazzling some other girl for awhile. You keep telling me that I am the only girl you want to be with, but then I see you with other girls and it makes me think otherwise.

If you do not end up with me, I hope you end up with a girl that is twice as great as me and you put all of your effort into her. I see you slow down while you drive past my house and you always text me "Go to bed, love". One day, I am going to miss that when we start our own separate lives and move away from each other.

My advice to you is to not give up on me. I just need some time to figure out that you are indeed the best guy for me. You would give me anything I would need and at the same time give me my freedom to do what I want to do. So keep chasing me buddy and never give up. I do not think I can handle seeing you with another girl.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
