To Boy In The Cafeteria,

Thank you for the memories.

When I first met you, I never expected to have so many memories with you. I thought I would just coast through senior year living through the same routine with the same friends from before. Wind River gave me a family during the first semester; a best friend during the second. Honestly, I didn’t think it was possible to go on as many food runs as we did during that year. We were broke, but hey, at least we had each other. I never thought that I would see you in the front seat of my car nearly every Tuesday and every Thursday, I was so content simply existing next to you. I didn’t care what we did, I just loved your company and the memories that came with. Thank you.

Thank you for the laughter.

Let me be the first to tell you, I did not think that a single human could make me laugh as much as you. Every comment from you was something so unexpected; I loved it. I loved having someone to laugh at me and I loved having someone to laugh with me. Your laughter was contagious. It was my sunshine, even on the darkest of days. I never thought I would be the girl to laugh so hard at the smallest things, and I am so grateful that you have shown me how to. Thank you.

Thank you for your patience.

I am an over thinker, and I’m sure you know that. But you didn’t care, because you’d still sit with me; you’d still try to understand. I’d call you and text you an infinite number of times in one night, and you were still patient with me I would mess up the words that were a sad failure of a story, and you would comfort me through that. I am absolutely certain that there were times when I looked like a complete fool trying to piece together a story. You would hear me out; you would show an unbelievable amount of patience. Thank you.

Thank you for your love.

Love can be such a scary concept to most people, regardless of the intentions. It’s something I thought everyone else had adapted to, and I was not one of them. But you showed me that love isn’t something to be afraid of. You showed me that love was gentle, and you showed me that love was kind. You showed me the importance of loving and the importance of being loved in return. Learning how to love was one of the biggest moments in my life. Thank you.

Thank you for the feeling you give me.

No one has ever made me feel such a powerful emotion before. When I'm with you, I am filled with the universe; I am filled with stardust. My stomach becomes a butterfly pavilion, and my heart races. You have made me feel so beautiful, so lovely. My heart has only grown fonder with affection during every interaction. Thank you.

Thank you so much.

I don’t know where the future will take us, but I’m very hopeful that I always have you. In one school year, I never thought that someone that I met in the middle of the cafeteria could have the potential to be so important to me. I have learned so much from what you have given me; I’ve learned so much from what you have shown me. You have been such an unexpected blessing in my life. I am so incredibly proud to know a friend with such a beautiful heart and such a beautiful mind. You were, are, and will forever be everything to me

Thank you.

For everything and so much more.

Sincerely,

The Girl In The Cafeteria.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

9 Reasons Why Friends Are Essential In College

College without friends is like peanut butter without jelly.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
