The Boston Red Sox just played their season opener, and even though they lost, it was an incredible game. I would like to start off by saying, do not let this game determine your season.
We have some of the bests in the MLB on our team; Mookie Betts, Dustin Pedroia, and Chris Sale are names that even Yankees fans know.
We started off so well. We kept a 4-0 lead over the Rays, all until the bottom of the eighth inning. Once the Rays came up to bat, they began to shut us down.
We may have had a few fumbles and bad plays toward the end, and I fully understand losing confidence, and, therefore, motivation toward the end. When you hold a lead for so long, and then lose it, it feels impossible to bounce back.
Don't hold onto that game as a defining moment of the season. Though it was a memorable first game, use it as a way to redeem yourselves. You have so many games ahead of you, and I know you are capable of taking home another World Series trophy.
You have so much potential. There are amazing teams in the league, and you will have some games that will be much harder than others. Don't get discouraged from your losses, though. As frustrating as it may be, reflect upon them and recognize your mistakes so you can take those with you to practice and knock them out of the park (pun intended).
I've been a Red Sox fan for as long as I can remember, and I've supported you through your winning seasons, as well as the seasons where you may not have cone so well. One thing I am confident in is your ability to bounce back from a downfall, because I have seen you do so before.
Remember that you are up against the best of the bests at all times, and no wins will ever be handed to you. You must put in your all every single game, and work as hard as you possibly can for your wins. Just because you are against the best of the bests does not mean you are not also among the best of the bests. If you were not capable of beating any of these teams in the league, you would not be where you are right now; playing on a Major League Baseball team.
You are a strong team. You are a capable team. But, most importantly, you are a team. You must work together at all times to have the strongest plays and be the strongest unit you can be, to carry yourselves to victory.
I am so excited to see what you guys bring this season, and I cannot wait to continuously support you, no matter what.
