Sometimes, surprises are what make life fun.

Coming to college, I hoped to find friends that I could have when I leave my university and continue to be friends for a long time. I've had some really troublesome friendships over the years, and typically they never last more than a few years. It's never been easy to always end up losing someone you thought you'd be friends with for the rest of your life, but college started something new.

I, like every other freshman, met tons of people my first couple of weeks on campus, and I found a good group of friends pretty quickly to settle into. What shocked me though was on the first few days, I met two girls and who I now call my best friends. Here's to these two because they snuck up on me, but have changed my life for the better.

To The Best Friends Who Snuck Up On Me,

I met you both because I heard the sentence, " You can't punch a ghost," and just had to know the context to that sentence. Once I jumped into that conversation, I met the two people who would be my inspiration, my listening ears, and most of all my best friends at college. I have other friends from home, but you two are so much more than that.

I get to see you two almost every day, and some of the best memories since stepping onto campus have been with you guys. I know we'll continue to create memories together, and I'm so grateful for that. Having you two in my life has made it so much more fun than it was before. One of you can be pretty abrasive, but I respect the honesty and straightforwardness you offer me. The other one of you two is super encouraging and always makes me feel as if anything is possible. You two are completely different, but that's what makes being friends with you both so great.

You two are vastly different, and I love being able to have such diverse best friends in you two. Every day with you two is an adventure because I never know what to expect. You two keep me on my toes and keep my days exciting. It may have only been two months since we met, but it already feels like a lifetime of friendship. These two months have been exhilarating, and I hope we keep spending time together and creating even more amazing memories.

I know I have two true friends in you guys because no matter what, you never judge me. I can be my truest self, and you two accept me for me. You know my story pretty well now-- and I've shared a lot about myself with you guys-- but you haven't taken anything I've shared as a bad thing. You've simply listened and accepted me. I've never felt this understood in my life. Thank you for accepting me, every little messy and damaged part of me.

You two are also stars shining brightly that guide me to try harder every day. I am inspired by the hard work you both put forth in your life and your studies, and I only hope to match up to your capabilities. You also encourage me to do more and be better, and I'm so glad you two do that. With you guys by my side, I feel like anything is possible. Thank you for making me want to be better, and thank you for encouraging me to reach for the stars.

I have never had friendships like these two, but I'm so grateful for them. Thank you for coming into my life, even if you snuck up on me. You two were the greatest surprise someone could ask for.

The 5 Painfully True Stages Of Camping Out At The Library

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
