To the Best Friend I Fell In Love With,

I don’t think either of us ever intended to fall for one another, but when it happened there was no better feeling in the world that could match it.

As friends, through thick and thin, you were there for me. You were the person I stayed up until all hours of the night with talking about our values and asking each other deep questions. You were the person who took in all of my private thoughts and secrets and held them close to your heart, never to utter them to another soul. You were the person who did not judge my tears, my anger and frustrations, nor my weird outbursts. You were the person I trusted the most because over years of friendship you proved yourself an extraordinarily selfless and caring person.

The wonderful part about all of this is that you still are that person. Only now you are my best friend in a new and beautiful way. Now, our late nights talking end with kisses goodbye and silly inside jokes. Our days begin and end with “Good morning” and “Goodnight” texts. Finally, our days consist of the words “I love you” because I don’t think we will ever get tired of saying it to each other and that means everything to me.

I really do believe that some of the best relationships stem from friendship. Not all of them, but many certainly do. It gives people the chance to build a foundation of trust that forms purely from the fact that you care about the other person, and not necessarily the physical benefits of a relationship. It gives people time to grow together and learn about each other on a deeper level before ultimately falling in love with them, despite their flaws and their not-so-great moments. With each other, we have seen it all and you and I have built this connection that started years ago and has only grown and continues to do so.

Now, you are still there for me through thick and thin. You still soak in all of my secrets. You are still the person I go to no matter how I am feeling. You are still the selfless and caring person I knew years ago as just a friend, only now you have wiggled your into my heart and I intend to keep you there.

Thank you for all that you have done and thank you for loving me so unconditionally. I hope you never forget how truly special you are to me.

Love always,

Your best friend

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
