Seventy percent of college students get sexually assaulted during their college career. One in five college students are survivors of sexual assault incidents. Only 11 percent of incidents are reported.
Forty-three percent of sexual assault incidents involved alcohol. Many incidents occur after a night out at a bar or a fraternity party.
No means no even when you are drunk.
To that 70 percent, you are not alone, I stand with you. I know that it is hard to get over something so traumatic. You constantly ask yourself why and you find reasons to blame yourself. Here are steps to help you cope.
Forgive yourself. When you are able to forgive yourself for this happening you able to move forward with time.
Remind yourself It’s not your fault. Do not say that it’s your fault, it’s not. Don't wish you were something different that night or that you wish you stayed with your friends. Do not call your self dumb, you did not know it was going to happen.
Find support. Tell someone! Vent to them that this happened to you. Telling someone that this happened takes courage, a lot of courage! The person you tell will be there for you 100 percent! They will help you get through this and remember that you are loved!
Remember that you are loved. You are so loved! Tell yourself that every morning! Healing from this takes a lot of time, but remember how loved you are!
If you were ever sexually assaulted or knew someone who was, this is for you. You do matter and you do have a voice. Do not let anyone tell you that this is not an issue because it is. Know your voice matters. You are entitled to be upset, hurt, and angry, and even if you never voice your opinion.
