Because you were not just another teacher in my life. You were also a role model, friend and someone who I consider a part of my family.

First of all, I want to say thank you. Thank you for incorporating not only me but also the rest of my family into your sons life and yours too. It probably wasn't the easiest to have people ask you why you let your sons step sister come over but I have a feeling that didn't bother you at all.

I want to let you know how much of an impact you had on my life. Besides my mother and my aunt you were one of the most important female role models I've had. I am never afraid to tell you anything and I know you will give me real advice on anything I ask you. You never sugar coat anything for me and that is something that most people don't do. You aren't afraid to hurt someone's feelings if it means they understand how you feel and you leave them feeling that they have a purpose.

You were always someone that I could look to for encouragement in school. It was so very special to be able to learn from you in and out of the classroom and also how you encouraged me every step of the way through my high school journey. Not just in academics either, you supported me through all the sports, games and extracurricular activities I was doing. I always knew if I ever needed to hear that I was good enough for something I would always come to you because you have an amazing way of overlooking my flaws and seeing my accomplishments.

You were always accepting of mine and my mothers role in your sons life. We were always celebrating Holliday's with you and your family. I so much appreciated being able to celebrate those special days surrounded by the people that I love the most. You being one of them.

Like how I feel about your son; Because of you I know that the word family isn't always defined by blood relation. It's defined by the ones you chose to surround yourself by. The ones you love equally as much as one of your own.

It's so great to know that I had you in my life. It's also amazing the amount of love you have shown me over the years. You are one of the best things that I was so very blessed to have in my life. Thank you so much for your endless support.

If there was one thing that I could wish for that all blended families should have, It would be that they could all learn to be as accepting, encouraging and as loving as you.

Love always.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
