To My Sorority

From the outside looking in, you could never understand

To My Sorority

When I first came to college, I never imagined myself joining a sorority. I didn't really understand the point and I pretty much just shut out the whole thought of Greek Life, before I really even gave it a chance. I think I was mostly nervous about not knowing what to expect, when joining. After being in since my Sophomore year, I can honestly say that it was one of the best decisions I've made thus far.

A sorority is so much more than what it looks like from the outside-it's one of those things that you can't understand from the outside looking in but you also can't explain it from the inside looking out. It's amazing, entertaining, loving, stressful at times, but most importantly it's a home.

A sorority is wanting to go to the dining hall and never having to worry about being alone, because chances are at least 5 people want to join you. It's uploading a selfie and having your sisters hype you up non-stop. It's going through a break-up and your big forcing you to eat pickles and ice cream with her in bed. It's never being alone on your worst or best days. It's making a name for yourself on and off campus. It's being involved in the community. It's helping mold yourself into a person you can be happy with.

A sorority is getting your Big, Little, La/Ga, and New Member Class and not really knowing what to expect but holding out hope that it's something great and in the end, it's even better than great.

A sorority is seriously just like an extended family. There's drama and arguing, at times, but there's also constant support and shoulders to lean on. Joining a sorority forces you to learn a lot about yourself as well as the many sisters you're joining with and once you have that bond with someone, it isn't easily broken.

Being in a sorority for me has taught me many valuable lessons. I think one of the wisest things I can take away from this is "not to attend every argument you're invited to"-drama is inevitable but the way you handle yourself really shines light on you as a person. It's hard at times, but it always gets easier.

I can't thank Alpha Sigma Tau Gamma Iota Chapter enough for giving me the friends of a lifetime and an experience that I wouldn't have had without joining. I've gained some of my best friends in this chapter and I don't regret a thing about it.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
