To My Sisters Preparing To Exit And Enter High School
Kaitlin Didinger

One of you is preparing to begin your senior year in high school, while the other is preparing for your freshman year in high school. These are huge steps for both of you. I'll be a sophomore in college. Wow, we're all old. As we all continue to grow, I want you to know that I'll always be here for you, no matter what. If I'm not down the hall, I'm just a text or a phone call away. I want the world for the both of you. I cannot even begin to explain how much you both mean to me. I can't wait to see what the future holds for y'all.

I can remember back to my freshman year in high school, when our brother was a senior. It was cool being the freshman with an older sibling, especially because I was new to the school and knew virtually nobody. It helps to have that safety net of knowing someone else will be there when you need them.

For my freshman - Freshman year can fly by also. This is a year of firsts. You'll have your first high school class, your first homecoming dance, your first homeroom, your first high school finals, etc. You'll encounter so many teachers who only want the best for you. Do not make their lives hell. Do your homework, study for tests, get good grades, and be respectful. Be honest. Be yourself. High school will open up so many doors for you, you just have to be looking for them. As you prepare for the next four years of your life in high school, I would hope that you decide to take it slow. Don't rush through high school. Take it all in. Be a kid while you still can be.

For my senior - Senior year flies by. Senior year is full of many lasts. You'll have your last homeroom, your last high school lunch, your last class field trip, your last homecoming dance, your last prom, last powder-puff game, last class, last final, and eventually, your last goodbye. It all happens so quickly. Before you know it, you'll be walking across the stage to receive your diploma and I'll be sitting in the bleachers with my camera. Before you know it, high school will be over and you'll be preparing for college. Hopefully, you won't wait until three days before move-in day to pack like I did. Before you know it, everything you know is going to change. Embrace this change, and enjoy every second of it. Enjoy your year of lasts, take it slow.

My advice to the both of you would be, look out for each other. This is a new beginning for both of you. One of you is preparing to leave high school and find a college that you can call home for the next four years and the other is preparing to call high school home for the next four years before you begin to do the same. Keep an eye out for each other. High school can be rough, people can be cruel, and times can be hard, so have each other's back. You will have disagreements, but make the most of this time that you have together while it's still there.

Take it all in. Whether it's your senior year or your freshman year, it's going to fly by. Don't sit there and wait for June to come around for it to all be over. Soak it all in and enjoy every minute of it. High school goes by quicker than you know it, and then you're on your own. Enjoy yourself, make memories, and just take it all in.

Take this year one day at a time. Work together. Look out for each other. Enjoy yourselves. Make the most of this year. I can't wait to hear all about it, from both of you.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.

What's up Asshat,

I've composed a list of things that I wish upon you, and they're harsh and cruel. These things are things that I wouldn't wish upon my worst of enemies, not even that Starbuck's barista who always screws up my order, not even him. You fall into a whole other category of hate. You surpass Starbucks barista. Congratulations, I'm actually a pretty nice person, making you worthy of every single bit of torture I wish upon you. What are these things I wish upon you you might ask?
