To My Sister, Thank You For Being You

You deserve the world.

To My Sister, Thank You For Being You

To my wonderful sister, thank you.

We did not have it easy growing up. I admit, it was the most troubling time of my life so far and we still go through our fair share of problems, but no one could hold me together like you can. You’ve also been through your fair share of stuff and you had no one to hold your hand through growing up, teach you right from wrong, and give you advice like you have done with me. I applaud you for that. I applaud you for your bravery. To get through those tough times without a hand to hold but still mentor me and basically care for me as if I was your own child.

You inspire me and teach me new things every day. I watch how life has dealt you a shitty hand and you still can hold your head up high to the sun and simply laugh and brush bad things off your shoulder, and I hope one day I can be somewhat close to the woman you are. You are so brave, talented, free-spirited, and amazing. I hope to be like you one day. You take each day with a grain of salt. You have seen a cold, unhappy, dark world at one point in time and you still smile every day and don’t let that affect you. I love you for that. Thank you for inspiring me to become the person I am today.

You do not get enough credit, for, you did not have an older sibling to guide your hand like I have had with you. No one taught you right from wrong or could talk to you about things you didn’t feel comfortable telling Mom and Dad. I am so blessed to have an older sister. To care for me, look after me since we were little kids, love me unconditionally at times Mom and Dad were too wrapped up in their lives to pay attention, and to guide my hand through growing up. I hope I am at least half of the sister to you that you are to me because you do a damn well job at being my sister.

You deserve the world and I hope maybe some day I can give that to you. No amount of gratitude or love or any amount of material items can describe how thankful I am to have you as my sister and helping me through life. You deserve every great thing this life has to offer and one day I will give it all to you. One day I will give you everything you have ever wanted and more. I will make your life a dream and fill it with happiness like you have done with me. You have taught me how to be happy, how to love, how to be grateful and appreciate what I have. You have taught me everything I know in life. I wouldn't be anywhere near the person I am today if it wasn't for you.

Thank you for when we had nothing, you still made me feel like we had everything. When the world crumbles around me, you still hold me up with both hands and make me feel loved. Even though we don’t have everything in the world materialistically, you make me feel as if I am given every ounce of love in the universe. You make me feel as if I have everything in this world that truly matters. Not the Michael Kors, not the newest iPhone, not all these amazing luxury items, but love. You make me feel loved.

Simply, thank you for being you.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
