To My Sister...

The Best Friend I Got To Grow Up With

563
To My Sister...
Madison Weaver

My best friend, my worst enemy, my confidant, my shoulder to cry on; my sister is many things to me.

Arguing over clothes, shoes, makeup, and literally everything else was a constant in our house. There were even a couple of stray elbows and closed fists that were thrown every now and then if mom was far enough away not to intervene.

As we've grown older things have definitely changed. I've followed in your footsteps by attending the same college as you (I swore I would never do this...oh well). Although we aren't as close in proximity as we used to be, I would argue that we are closer than we have ever been. You have your life and I have mine, even though we don't know every detail I still have a grasp on what you do day-to-day that makes me feel close to you.

When you need me I will always answer the phone, or vice-versa since I'm usually the one calling you. You are my personal WebMD when I am a hypochondriac. You are my mediator with our parents. But most of all, no matter where we are in life, you are my best friend.

"Sisters grow separately without growing apart," is a constant reminder of how our bond is in many ways separate, but in much more ways so special.

I was always envious of the kids growing up who were the only child because I was so used to sharing everything with you, but now I realize how unbelievably lucky I was to have you across the hall loving and defending me and most of all putting me in my place.

Our lives will continue to grow and march on different paths but never will I worry that you won't be my best friend, late night call, lunch date, therapist, personal doctor, and most importantly...my sister.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

mu bucket list

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.
