The Relationship Better Than a Boyfriend

To my "Ride or Die" Bestie
Margaret Beslin

This is not an "Open Letter" because dang I am so sick of those, but this is a post dedicated to my ride or die bestie. A ride or die bestie is like having a boyfriend and enjoying your alone time all rolled into one. Your ride or die bestie will buy you food (or at least mine does) and you can feel comfortable just sitting in silence scrolling through your phone or watching Netflix with them. A ride or die bestie is that one friend that you can go a long while without seeing and whenever y'all meet up again, it's like no time has passed.

Ride or die besties are great because they aren't afraid to tell you the truth. She's brutally honest and sometimes you hate that, but you can count on her to give you a reality check whenever you need.

A true ride or die will support you no matter what, even when your actions may be less than despicable. She hates everyone you hate for no good reason other than you not liking that person. She's always a shoulder to cry on and an ear to vent to, and yeah, she'll have wine. She's the perfect wing girl- even your family sometimes wonders if y'all are secret lovers. She's your partner in crime, not the girl who will bail you out of jail, but the one sitting next to you in the cell saying, "That was awesome! Let's do it again!" Like she hates anyone that you hate, she'll also hate anything you hate. Nothing bonds two people together like a common hatred. She's your personal photographer, capturing only the best selfies and an occasional embarrassing candid. She's there for you to talk about your boyfriend (read: that hot guy that has no idea you exist) and she understands just what a great catch you are.

You know that scene in Bridesmaids whenever they say, "We can communicate with just a single look." That's you and your ride or die. She'll catch your glare from all the way across the dance floor and save you from the creeper trying to get with you. She knows just how weird you are and still chooses to be seen out in public with you. She's very argumentative which is great when you need someone to help you win that fight with bae, but it can come back to bite you when you're the one she's arguing with. Y'all make up quickly though, because you can't stay mad at your ride or die. Inside jokes are common and anyone who hangs out with the both of you often end up feeling annoyed and left out.

She's there to get you through all the bad days. She knows just how to cheer you up and has no problem telling you that you just need to get over it- again, brutally honest. You bring out the best in each other. Y'all each have your own issues to deal with, but together the two of you are a force to be reckoned with. Just writing this article has me in my feels thinking about my ride or die.

The best part of it all, I know she feels the exact same way as I do. Heck, she could've written this article herself about me.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
