To my person
I was always told that you find your best friends for life in college. They didn’t tell me that my best friend would have such an impact on my life. I’ve known you since my freshmen year, yet I feel like I’ve known you for my whole life. You became another piece to my whole, and now what is life without you?
We have shared so many memories together that I am beyond thankful for, and it is all because we decided to attend the same university. Whether it was binging on McDonald’s fries at 12 a.m., cramming for an exam the night before, or just snuggled up on each other’s beds talking and laughing. We have fights just like any other friendship, but ours are unique because we always end up having a stronger bond at the end of it. Since the day we first met, our friendship has grown and gotten stronger.
You tell me exactly how it is. You tell me when I mess up. You tell me when I’m being over dramatic (which is always). I always appreciate that. It is reassuring that I never have to question your intentions. College has been so good to me in that it brought you and I together. I couldn’t have gotten through my freshmen year without you.
You have been there for me through the unexpected. We’ve been there for each other through some of the worst times, and some of the best. I cannot wait until you help me pick out my furniture for my new place after I graduate, and when you’re near me at the altar at my wedding.
As cheesy as this is, you’re the person who makes me laugh when I’m crying. You’re the person who understands me even when I say, “I’m not hungry” and still order me a large fry. You’re the person who makes sure I made it home safely. You’re the person who knows exactly what to say for any situation I’m in. You’re the person who I want nothing but pure happiness for. You’re the one who needs a significant other as wonderful as you. You’re the person who lets me be your person, even though I’m not the best at it. You’re the one who I plan crazy adventures with, but Netflix & Hulu will do for now.
I never thought I’d meet someone who knows everything about me, and still chooses to be my best friend with a smile on her face. Thanks for reading my mind, and communicating with me using only facial expressions when we couldn’t say it out loud. Thank you for always being there when my other “friends” weren’t. Thank you for never turning your back on me. Thank you for supporting every decision I made. Thank you for making me a part of the family. Most importantly, thank you for being you.
We are similar, yet so completely different. You are my Christina Yang and I am your Meredith Grey.
Love always,
Your best friend
