To My People

I have a lot of love for you.

To My People

To my people,

I know that some people might look at this and think "who is 'my people' and why is this a thing?" Let me tell you because I have all the answers. Your people are the people you gravitate towards. They are the people that you understand or just comfortably fit in with. They can be as specific as a group of people and they can be as broad as a category of people like chocolate lovers. Being apart of someone's "people" is very different, but also very similar to being someone's "person." Essentially your "people" are just a larger version of your "person." It is more if your person was a generalized group of people. I see a lot of articles about thanking your person, but where is the love for those who are your "people." There is no limit on the amount of people who are your people, but it is always good to show them some love every once in a while.

Now that everyone is on the same page about who their people are, it's time to thank mine.

What's up everyone? Long time, no see. Or maybe I just talked to you. I just need to say thank you for a lot of things.

Thank you for being there, whether you know it or not. I know that there are times when I don't really know what is going on, but I know that there is a group of people out there that understand the same things as me. I know that there is a community out there that doesn't think that having a lowkey shrine in your weird to Harry Potter is weird. I know that there is a community out there that gets excited to binge watch a new show and wholeheartedly gets sucked in every time.

It's comforting to know that there are people out there that can live totally different lives, but still can come together for a common purpose. If you go to the midnight release of your favorite movie or video game or book, you could find a big group of people and there is not a pair that are exactly alike. I think ComicCon is the best example of this. Thousands of people go to ComicCon every year and dress up and live their best life possible. Some of them are lawyers or teachers or janitors or teenagers or students or grandparents, but those differences don't matter because you are all together, celebrating a come love and interest and there is nothing that could take away from that experience.

To those who are my "people' or in my tribe, just know that you are incredible and that the world would be a little less everything if you were not in it. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Love,

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
