An Open Letter To The Person Who Gets Me

Thank you for being you.

To the person that seems to always get me,

First off, congrats. Because it takes a lot to actually understand the complexity and unknown barriers of my thoughts.

You always seem to know what I need and when I need it. You seem to know when I need to talk, when I need to listen and when I need to relax. You always know when I need to go on a walk outside, grab a cup of coffee or listen to some music.

I don't think I've ever had someone care about me in the way that you do. You take into consideration all of the little things- the minute details of me and my entirety- and I think that is what I appreciate about you the most.

You remember all the little details that I tell you. You remember the important things I have coming up, the way I like to prepare certain food, the routine I like to have throughout the day and even the breaks where I actually have free time throughout my busy schedule.

I guess I'm writing this because you came into my life at a time where I needed someone like you most. When my mind is swirling with dark and terrible thoughts, you allow me to sort my mind so that I can fight them away. You find time for me, take the time to get to know me and I couldn't ask you to do any more than you already do.

Life has just been filled with people who have walked on me like a doormat. Taking a look at me, wiping their feet and constantly walking over me. You came into my life exactly at the moment when I needed you, and I cannot even express how thankful I am to have you and how excited I am to see where this bond takes us.

Being able to communicate without any words is probably one of the greatest things. Just being able to look at each other, say nothing, but somehow still get across a message or a simple joke is simply one of the things that I appreciate the most.

So in all, I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for being the person that you are, and thank you for coming into my life because I don't know what I would do without you.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
