Mickey Bratton

To my optimistic friend,

Thank you for showing me how to glow, even when things get dim. You constantly are smiling, which is why people want to be around you all the time. You've never had anything bad to say about anyone, except the truth, which is rare to find these days.

When I catch myself complaining about my life or talking negative, I look towards you in hopes to be reminded of what it's like to keep striving forward with nothing but good energy. Your presence is love. Whenever you walk in the room, I just get the strongest urge to hug and embrace you for being YOU.

You are a light source. A star. Someone who can guide people, who are lost in this world.

I've made a joke about you before that I can swear that if God forbid, someone broke your arm, you would shrug it off as if nothing happened. You would easily forgive them.

You know when to pick your battles and when to confront someone when it's time. You don't make unnecessary arguments like most do. You know when to make distance when you've given people too many chances.

When you speak whatever is on your mind, innocence and purity spur out. Sometimes, the things you say are different, but never outlandish. You make perfect sense in my world.

You live in accordance with your true self. You are nothing BUT yourself. Your humor is funny because I know that you have good intentions. You don't want to hurt others, or yourself, in jeopardized situations.

You just want what's best for others. You're always there to listen and give your input. You exist without your ego, even though at times we use our egos as a joke. At least we can be humble about it.

You deserve to be loved and appreciated by all that walk in your presence. Your kindness should never go unnoticed. I feel so blessed that you left your country to go to college in New Jersey. You've left your mark.

I've always told you that you are special. You have a special place in my heart.

Thank you for being you, my friend.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
