To My Nephew

You will forever be my best bud.

You are always going to be my best bud.

We have this super cool relationship that not a lot of aunts and nephews have. We are only ten years apart, which to me, is really awesome. It is actually sort of funny though, too. When you were born, we had to beg the nurse to let me into the hospital room to see you, because I was underage and I technically was not allowed into the room. I am pretty sure I cried for awhile, and eventually, she let me inside.

Since we have this age gap, and since Nonnie watched you on weekdays, we kind of have sibling-like relationship, which I absolutely love. It makes the dynamic of our relationship so playful and fun. Almost every time I see you, you tackle me with a hug and squeeze me so tight I feel like my stomach is going to explode. (I still expect this when you are 25). You also tackle me a lot just because you think it is hilarious.

My absolute favorite memory I have with you though, is the day you asked me to be in your "best friends forever club." Later on, you also asked my best friend to be in it with us, and when your little sister was born, you immediately added her into it as well. You have such a sweet and loving heart, even when you tackle me, it is always filled with such love. All of the ladies are going to love you. I am going to make them all go through a questionnaire. And I will probably embarrass you a lot. I apologize in advance, but that is one of my jobs!

One of my other favorite things about you, is that you understand when I am sad, and you know how to make me happy. I can cry so hard I cannot breathe, and if I am with you, you know to just hug me really tight and let me fluff the hair on your head. You almost always love to help me with stuff, too. This summer, you helped me move cinder blocks that weighed over fifty pounds, and you did great.

I could talk about you for days, but that would be a really really long article, so I chose one more of my favorite things that you do. Every time I meet one of your friends from school, you always say, "this is KK, she's my aunt and my sister's godmother." I melt inside, each and every time you say it.

No matter what happens, you are one of my best friends, forever. I will be there for you, whether it is girl advice, life advice, anything. I will always be there, no matter the situation or circumstance. I will forever be your KK, your Kake-y. I love you more than words can even describe. I am so excited to continue to watch you grow!

Love you bud, forever and ever and ever. Thank you for always making me smile.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
