Mom,
Throughout my 19 years of life, you’ve been there for me during the celebrations and shining moments. More importantly, you’ve been there in the times I’ve crawled home after defeat and failure, wanting to hide from everything and everyone; somehow you always knew what to say, or not say.
You were there to hug me after the crushing defeat that was my last volleyball game. You were behind me, supporting me, when I made the hard decision to quit track my senior year. During my many years of athletics, you were present at almost every single game, match and meet.
After being away for the first time in college, I’ve grown to appreciate every scary movie night, every shopping trip and every moment you and I spend together that much more.
Every time you wondered whether or not you were saying or doing the right thing, I am here to say you were. Although I like to tell you stories of all the ways you used to “abuse” me, I hope you know I’m only kidding and look back at the memories fondly. Most of the time, anyways.
So, Mom — thank you.
Thank you for always offering to give me that new shirt you bought, even when I know you really want it for yourself.
Thank you for always going the extra mile to make sure I always have everything I need, even if it means you must sacrifice something yourself.
Thank you for understanding me when I can’t even understand myself and for always being the person I can vent to without any judgement.
Thank you for raising me to be the person I am today.
Thank you for being my favorite travel partner.
Thank you for supporting my dreams.
Most importantly, thank you for being my best friend and mom all in one.
