College is a really strange transition between being a kid and being an adult. We all like to think that we have it all together, but personally I am reminded daily of how much help I still need in the art of "adulting." No one has provided more advice or more encouragement during the hard moments or during the happy moments than my mom.
Mom, I know I give you a hard time sometimes. I know that it hurts that I'm growing up, but I want you to know you're so incredibly loved. So, here are a few things to remember when you miss me being at home or when you are having a rough day.
I really do listen to what you say.
Sometimes I like to pretend that I know more than you about the world or about school or about friends. But, deep down, I always hear what you say to me and I remember it when making decisions. You still are and always will be one of the biggest influences in my life.
I appreciate you.
As I've gotten older and tried doing adult things, like cooking and paying bills and working, I have gained an understanding for how much you have sacrificed for me through the years. You have always put aside your wants and needs to satisfy mine and support my goals and dreams. I see that now, and I thank you.
I am proud of you.
I am proud that you're my mom. I am proud of the person you are and how strong you have always been. It's inspiring. Never get the idea that I'm embarrassed of you because that's just not true. I love introducing you to my friends and telling people that your my mom.
You're beautiful.
Inside and out, you're beautiful. When you laugh, it brings me joy because I can hear the beauty of how much you love me. You exhibit grace and humility and kindness in everything you do.
I am who I am because of you.
Without your support through grade school, sports, and college, I would be nowhere. You have been the voice of reason and encouragement when I have felt like giving up. Whenever I feel like I'm not enough, you remind me of Jesus' unconditional love for me. When things get tough, you tell me to pray. And although that isn't what I always want to hear, it's the best advice you could give me. You have played a major role into shaping me into the woman of God I am today. You're a friend, a confidante, a cheerleader and the best mom in the world.
You're loved.
