To My Mom For Mother's Day
Kirstyn Conwell

Hey Mom,

Thank you for being you. Thank you for loving me with all of your being every single day. Thank you for giving me constant encouragement and for picking me up when I'm feeling down. You're my No. 1 fan, my biggest supporter, and you're always rooting for me in everything I do. From grades to sports, to my job, I can always count on you to be right by my side through it all.

You attended all of my sports games, all of my school events, plays, practices, etc. You packed my lunch until I was in the ninth grade — I miss that. You drove me everywhere I needed to go, then taught me how to drive with an extreme amount of patience and persistence. You dealt with all of my sass and attitude from when I was a teenager and all of the drama that comes along with it. You even go to concerts and sit in the pit with me while we jam out to our favorite band. I can't thank you enough for enduring all of this just for me. Whoever said moms can't be their daughters best friends are clearly wrong, because you're my No. 1 best friend.

You've taught me how to be compassionate, brave and how to overcome anything that gets thrown my way. You've taught me how to be respectful and mature to my peers and adults, and I couldn't thank you more for that. You've accepted me through all of my pits and peaks, despite who I thought I was or who I wanted to be. I know that you love me, and through that, I've learned to love others just as well.

You make me want to do better. You make me want to achieve so much more. You motivate me in every thing I do because I do it for you. I want to make you proud, and I strive to be more like you every single day. You carry a lot on your plate, but you don't let that stop you from giving your all. You taught me that no matter what I do, I should do it with 110 percent at all costs. You've taught me how to be a leader and a hard-worker when it comes to things I am passionate about. Thank you for pushing me to be a better version of myself.

I love you more than I'll ever be able to put into words. I know I don't say it enough, but I am thankful for you and everything you do for me. You're generous, selfless, kind and humorous, and I couldn't ask for anything more in a mom. You mean the world to me, and I hope you know that. I love you!

xoxo,

Your Favorite Child ;-)

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
