An Open Letter To The Woman Who Inspires Me
me

I have been on this Earth for 22 years and counting. I have always questioned where I learned to be so strong.

The answer was right in front of me the whole time.

You have taught me that it is okay to be sad simply because you can't be happy at the moment. You have taught me that life moves on whether you want it to or not. You have taught me that you can overcome anything you set your mind to, big or small.

If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't know how to move forward when the smallest inconveniences happens to me. I wouldn't know what health insurance was. I wouldn't know that you can't wear stripes with other patterns. I wouldn't know how to survive.

Without you, I'd be lost in this terrifying world. No matter how many times I roll my eyes when you tell me to "be safe" before a night out, I appreciate it every single time. Bad things happen to innocent people all the time. I hate to say it, but the first time you told me that, I thought "yeah, but nothing would happen like that to me."

Boy, was I wrong. If it wasn't for you, I would be completely blind to the outside world. Thank you for preparing me.

I don't need reassurance from a boy reminding me that "he still likes me." I don't need reassurance from a friend letting me know that "he's just a stupid boy." I may be older now, but reassurance from you that everything will be okay is more comforting than anything else, especially in a relationship sense, because I'm your twin. Everything that you did, I am doing right now.

Thank you for everything you have ever done for me. Thank you for keeping all of my secrets safe. Thank you for being my serenity when I need it. Thank you for being my shoulder to cry on. Thank you for holding my hand during the darkest of times. Thank you for being you.

There is no one else like you. I love you.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
