To My Living Guardian Angel

Through thick and thin, we always have someone behind us

To My Living Guardian Angel

To My Living Guardian Angel,

In life, it’s too easy to take people for granted. Often times the ones we get most annoyed with are the ones we need the most. Whether it’s a significant other, friend, or family member, we always enjoy having someone easing the pain for us. More than often we don’t see how much this person sacrifices to keep us happy, making them our protector. When we become overwhelmed, this is the first person we take our emotions out on. It doesn’t matter what happened, if it’s a school related problem, family fight, or even just anxiety over the future, this person is the one we cry to, the one we depend on to take us back to reality when our minds are racing with irrational thoughts. No matter what’s going on, our guardian angels can always sympathize with us, and as a result they’ll do whatever they can to lift us back up.

We all know guardian angels as those who save us from near death experiences and other negative occurrences, but where are they during our high points? I believe they’re still with us, cheering us on. These are the people that we should be eternally grateful for. They are always with us, mentally, emotionally, and physically. Their goal is to keep us happy and safe, if you are fortunate enough to know your guardian angel, you’re lucky. When you realize how fortunate you are for those who care about you tremendously and make your happiness a priority, it seems like material things don’t matter. Don’t get me wrong, a nice shopping spree is not something to complain about, but nothing compares to the comfort we get from our guardian angels. Whether you have the worst day or get a new job, if you can share those feelings with someone else, knowing their feelings will be just as strong as yours- that is a beautiful thing. So much in life is temporary: cars, clothes, almost everything! But those material items aren’t going to be there for us when we get into graduate school or get our heart broken for the first time.

What makes someone a guardian angel is no matter how much we dump our emotions and problems on them, their love for us is unconditional. When we’re at our highs, it’s easy for people to be supportive; it doesn’t take much of their energy. It’s when we hit rock bottom that we are able to separate those we can truly depend on and those who are temporary friends. Having someone being supportive, protective, and encouraging when we feel hopeless is by far the best gift we can even have.

Yet sometimes that is taken for granted. No one is living a picture perfect life, but everyone has something to be thankful for. It’s the truly rich people that are the most thankful for things that don’t cost a penny, therefore I consider myself very rich. I’m human, I’ve taken loved ones for granted on certain occasions, but I am able to see how fortunate and blessed I am. I’m able to feel like I’m on top of the world, because my guardian angel is always behind me, protecting me through the bad and supporting me through the good. We have this image of angels as wearing a halo, floating down from heaven and even though our guardian angels don’t fit this description, they are just as beautiful. If you know you met your guardian angel, cherish them. They are one of the most important people in your life and always remember, you have the chance to be someone else’s and make that person feel untouchable.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
