To My Little

Sororities make a big deal about Big Little Reveal. They go all out in costumes, banners, decorations, and the whole nine yards. I never truly understood the experience or magnitude of it until I got a Little.

For those of you unaware of what Big Little is, it is simple. A member of the sorority applies to be a Big. This means they will not only be a sister but a mentor, friend, and possibly so much more to a Little. A Little is a new member who recently accepted a bid into a sorority. Having a Big is crucial for them. It might be their freshman year and their Big could be a senior. The Big is there to help the Little with any school work, advice, problems, mentor, and friend.

I was able to help build the Iota Beta Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi at Campbell University. I have truly grown as a person and been able to see some amazing things happen within this chapter. We recently gained 17 amazing girls in our sorority. I was lucky enough to be chosen to receive a Little. Part of me was nervous because I want to build a strong relationship with my Little and feared that she may not like me.

The day finally came to find out who my Little was. We ran into each other’s arms and hugged so tight. We played games and got to know each other a little bit. My Little is so sweet, kind, caring, and driven. I know she is going to do great things in life and within Greek life.

I will always be there.

Whether you call me at 2 am needing advice or text me with a math question, I will always be there to help you. I can give advice or just be a shoulder to cry on.

I will support you.

I will be your biggest cheerleader. I will help you celebrate your accomplishments and pick you up when you fall.

You will always have me.

You will always be my little. No matter if I am 5 minutes down the road, another state away, or even a country away, I will forever be your Big.

Love will be all I have for you.

Everyone makes mistakes. However, I will love you no matter what and be there to help you. I will never judge you or the mistakes that have been made. I will be proud of you.

Time will be made for you.

We both have busy lives. I will make time for you every week to hangout and make our friendship and relationship stronger. I will put every single drop of effort for you.

I am always proud of you.

No matter what you achieve or fail, I will be proud that you always tried your hardest and gave it every drop of effort.

You are so important to me.

I have always wanted a sister and I now have more than I could imagine. However, you are special to me and I hope you know the importance you hold in my heart.

I cannot wait to be a role model, mentor, and best friend to someone. I hope that I am the best Big she can ask for. I love her so dearly already, and cannot wait to see where life takes us together!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
